MACON, Ga. – Mercer rising senior Olivier Stuart has qualified to compete in the Oracle ITA Masters for the second consecutive year on Sept. 26-29 at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif.
The prestigious national collegiate championship will be played at Pepperdine and the Malibu Racquet Club. Stuart – the only player in program history to qualify for the tournament – impressed last year, advancing to the tournament’s consolation bracket finals before falling to the ITA’s No. 30 nationally ranked player.
Stuart was named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year as a junior, going 17-5 overall (7-0 SoCon) in No. 1 singles play and 15-7 in No. 1 doubles play. He finished the 2018-19 season as the No. 115 nationally ranked player by the ITA, becoming Mercer’s first player to earn a spot in the organization’s end-of-season rankings.
The Oracle ITA Masters features the returning player of the year (or other, as determined by the selection criteria) from each Division I athletic conference, with two additional wild card spots. The tournament will consist of a single-elimination 32-player men’s singles draw and a single-elimination 32-player women’s singles draw (both with first-round loser consolation), along with a single-elimination 32-team mixed doubles draw (no consolation). Each mixed doubles team will be comprised of the men’s player and the women’s player from each conference, with wild card/at-large players paired together or with conference players who do not have a counterpart.
