East Tennessee State 6, Elon 1

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.
- The 72nd-ranked Elon men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at the hands of No. 60 East Tennessee State at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on the campus of The College of William & Mary. The Phoenix is 0-2 on the young season, facing two ranked opponents to open the year. ETSU, who picked up a 4-3 victory over William & Mary on Friday, remained perfect on the year at 2-0.

The Bucs got off to a strong start, winning all three doubles matches to earn the team point. ETSU's 52nd-ranked doubles tandem of Jesus Bandres and Sander Gille picked up an 8-2 win against Eric Turner and Alberto Rojas at number two. The Bucs clinched the point after the number three duo of Robin Akser and Daniel Isaza defeated Cody Stauffer-MacDowell and Tommy Darling, 8-2. The top doubles match was the most competitive of the day, with ETSU's Charles Bottoni and Grega Teraz taking an 8-5 win over Philip Nemec and Chase Helpingstine.

Despite some close matches, Helpingstine was the lone Elon winner in singles action. The junior picked up a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (8) victory over Gille at number three. Elon rookie Carlos Arboleda rebounded after dropping the first set to force a tiebreaker, but eventually fell 6-4, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (7) to Jeremy Bonnevalle at six singles. The Bucs won straight-set matches at five, four and two which clinched the team victory.

Elon will remain in Virginia to take on host William & Mary on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
