CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Samford women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at College of Charleston Wednesday afternoon at Patriots Point.
College of Charleston won the doubles matches on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to earn the doubles point. The match on the No. 3 doubles court was not completed.
In singles, Samford’s Ellie Gerlach earned a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Liza Fieldsend at No. 1. Charleston took the matches at No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5. Grace Jennings of Samford won on the No. 6 court, defeating Sarah Jane Jones, 6-4, 6-4.
With the loss, Samford falls to 8-5 so far this season. College of Charleston improves to 7-4 with the loss.
Samford will return to action on Thursday, when the Bulldogs take on Massachusetts in a match to be played in Charleston. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
