SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced the pairings and times for the 2018 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Saturday (April 14). Furman won the league’s regular season crown and earned the top seed in the eight-team tournament that will be held Friday through Sunday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Furman earned the No. 1 seed by finishing conference play with an unblemished 7-0 mark. The Paladins, who will square off against No. 8 UNCG on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m., won the previous meeting between the two programs 6-1 on March 24. The Spartans are fresh off their first conference win this season, downing Chattanooga 4-3 on Saturday (April 14). ETSU secured the No. 2 seed by virtue of the league’s tiebreaking procedures, finishing in a tie with Samford with a 5-2 mark in conference play. The Bucs will take on No. 7 Wofford at 3:00 p.m. Friday.

Samford claimed the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Western Carolina at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' 5-2 record in SoCon play marks their best finish since 2015 when they finished 7-0 while the sixth seed is the highest for the Catamounts in program history. No. 5 Mercer will take on No. 4 Chattanooga at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Mercer claimed a 5-2 win over Western Carolina on April 13 to close out the season and earn the fifth seed.

Saturday’s semifinal matchups will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s championship match is set for 1:00 p.m.

ETSU, Furman, Samford and Chattanooga are the only current SoCon members to have won the conference tournament. The Mocs won the first three tournaments (1984-86) and have five tournament championships to their credit. Furman leads all programs with 17 Southern Conference Tournament championships after taking home its first title in nine years last season. Samford claimed its first tournament title in 2015 and ETSU won the 2016 tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
