ELON, N.C. – The Elon women’s tennis team was recently recognized for its success in the classroom by receiving the 2009 Division I ITA All-Academic Team award for the fourth consecutive year. Four Phoenix student-athletes also earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors: senior Whitney Butcher, juniors Laura Graybill and Paige Kensrue and freshman Elisa Simonetti. “It is an honor for the team to be recognized academically by the ITA,” said Elon head coach Elizabeth Anderson. “The group works very diligently to excel both in the classroom and on the court. It is great to see their hard work paying off.” A total of 102 Division I programs were recognized as women’s ITA All-Academic teams. To be nominated, the team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or above. In order to earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete award, a student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, achieve a grade point average of at least 3.5 and have been enrolled at their present schools for at least two semesters.
