BLACKSBURG, Va. - Elon senior Anna Milian went 3-1 in singles action as the Elon women's tennis team continued its fall season at the 16th Annual Hokie Fall Invitational at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. Milian took third place in the Flight A singles bracket, defeating Tech's Christin Newman, 6-3, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.

"Overall, we competed hard in the tournament and played some good matches," said Elon head women's tennis coach Elizabeth Anderson. "We also saw some areas that we can work hard to improve over the next few weeks."

Milian began competition with a three-set win over Radford's Petra Dajevic on Friday morning. She continued on the winning path with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell that afternoon. Milian suffered her first loss on Saturday afternoon before topping Newman to earn a third-place finish.

Elon had one of its best days of competition on Sunday, winning nine total matches, including all four of its doubles matches. Rookie Briana Berne posted a 2-2 singles mark in Flight C, earning a straight set win over Appalachian State's Olivia Stannard on Friday and then topping ASU's Laura Janke, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (3) on the final day. Berne also teamed with sophomore Sally Wilkey for two doubles victories. The tandem toughed out a 9-7 win over Miranda Cameron and Andra Voinea from ETSU on the opening day of action. On Sunday, Berne and Wilkey defeated Davidson's Ali Gores and Teresa Wang, 8-2.

After losing their first two doubles matches, senior Laura Graybill and junior Jessica Margolis battled back to win their final two bouts of the tournament. The pair topped ETSU's Kelby Marston and Jessica Ratcliff, 8-2, and then earned an 8-5 mark over Katie Barnhill and Victoria Cran from Tennessee Tech. Senior Hayley Wahl and sophomore Lauren Sessoms also picked up two doubles wins, defeating duos from Tennessee Tech and Albany.

Elon continues its fall season at the Davidson Fall Invitational on October 16-17.
