Elon 7, Lees-McRae 0

ELON, N.C. - Despite chilly temperatures and remnants of snow surrounding The Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, the Elon women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over the visiting Lees-McRae Lady Bobcats on Thursday afternoon. Elon did not lose a set and dropped only nine games in the six singles matches as the Phoenix improved to 4-2 on the year. The Lady Bobcats dropped to 0-2 on the young season.
 
Elon's Elisa Simonetti and Anna Milian improved to 3-2 with an 8-1 victory over Gabriela Celi and Lyndsay Pegram at number one doubles. Elon's Laura Graybill and Jessica Margolis matched their score at number three, defeating Brianna Fulp and Maria Andrade. Paige Kensrue and Daleen Kloppers won their fourth match of the year, teaming up for an 8-3 win over Christine Vanard and Cameron Joyce at number two.
 
The Phoenix made quick work of the six singles matches. Milian and Graybill did not lose a game in matches at number one and five, respectively. Hayley Wahl rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Fulp at the number six position. Lauren Sessoms had little trouble at number four, defeating Andrade, 6-1, 6-0. At number two, Kensrue topped Vanard, 6-1, 6-2. Simonetti closed out the shutout for the Phoenix with her 6-0, 6-4 win over Pegram at the third spot.
 
Elon will challenge Winston-Salem State on Saturday, February 6 at 10 a.m. at The Jimmy Powell Tennis Center before traveling to North Carolina to face the Tar Heels at 5 p.m.

Clemson 7, Furman 0

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Clemson women's tennis team, ranked 15th nationally, handed Furman a 7-0 loss on Thursday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

The Tigers won the doubles point, but the Paladins put up a tough fight in the number one position.  Clemson's Ina Hadziselimovic and Keri Wong combined for a 8-7 (3) win over Paladin junior Monica Arguello and freshman Lauren Kline.  Josipa Bek and Nelly Ciolkowski teamed up to defeat Furman freshman Michele Stanford and junior Jennifer Betts, 8-3, at number two doubles, while Estefania Balda and Laurianne Henry combined for a 8-2 win over Paladin rookie Olivia Maurice and senior Jessica Preeg in the third doubles spot.

In singles action, Arguello, ranked 84th nationally, dropped a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Wong in the first singles spot, while 9th-ranked Bek defeated Kline 6-3, 6-2 at number two singles.  Hadziselimovic, the 113th-ranked player in the nation, handed Preeg a 6-3, 6-1 loss at number three singles, and #61 Ciolkowski defeated Stanford 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth singles position.  At number five singles, Henry beat Paladin sophomore Susan Bitetti 6-1, 6-2, and Balda handed Maurice a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the sixth position.

Furman (0-3) will play host to Georgia State at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
