SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced the pairings and times for the 2019 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday evening. Furman won the league’s regular season crown and earned the top seed in the eight-team tournament that will be held Thursday, April 18- Saturday, April 20 at the John Drew Tennis Center in Macon, Georgia.

Furman, ranked No. 48 nationally, earned the No. 1 seed by finishing conference play with an unblemished 7-0 record, downing ETSU 6-1 in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon. The Paladins will square off with No. 8 Chattanooga on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Furman won the regular-season contest 7-0 on April 7.

ETSU earned the No. 2 seed, falling only to Furman and finishing 6-1 in league play, and will square off with No. 7 Western Carolina, also on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Wofford was 4-3 in conference action and earned the No. 3 seed. The Terriers match up with Mercer, who earned the No. 6 seed after finishing 2-5. Wofford downed Mercer 4-3 in Macon, Georgia, on April 5. The Terriers and Bears’ square off at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

UNCG, who was 3-4 in SoCon play, earned the No. 4 seed by virtue of the league’s tiebreaking procedures. The Spartans will take on No. 5 Samford, also 3-4 in conference play, on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. UNCG won 5-2 at home on March 30.

Friday’s semifinal matchups will begin at 10 a.m. and Saturday’s championship match is set for 1:00 p.m.

ETSU, Furman, Samford and Chattanooga are the only current SoCon members to have won the conference tournament. The Mocs won the first three tournaments (1984-86) and have five tournament championships to their credit. Furman leads all programs with 18 Southern Conference Tournament championships after taking home its second-straight title last season.
