GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman's Natalie Srinivasan (-3) won the U.S. Women's Open qualifier Monday at the par-72 Governor's Club in Raleigh, N.C., to earn a spot in the 2017 United States Women's Open, which will be held July 10-16 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J.

Srinivasan, a rising sophomore at Furman, posted an opening-round 70 then added a 71 on Monday to finish the tournament 3-under par and beat out recently turned-professional Katelyn Dambaugh (-2) of Goose Creek, S.C., and Lauren Stephenson (-2) of Lexington, S.C., by one stroke for medalist and low amateur honors. A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Srinivasan becomes one of only two players at the Raleigh sectional to secure a spot in the U.S. Open field.

“To compete in the U.S. Open is every golfer's dream,” said Furman head coach Jeff Hull. “I am so proud of Natalie for having qualified. She has worked really hard all year and deserves to be there.”

The 2017 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year, Srinivasan claimed individual medalist honors at the 2017 SoCon Championship and was named to the All-SoCon team and to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. She posted a 73.7 stroke average over 35 rounds this season and fired a 66 in the second round of the Cougar Classic, the best round for the Paladins in 2016-17. Srinivasan, who carded a 68 in the final round of the NCAA Lubbock Regional to tie for fifth, had four top-10 and six top-20 finishes as a rookie.

“This is such an honor,” said Srinivasan. “Qualifying for the U.S. Open is something most people dream of. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be able to have the chance to qualify.”

Srinivasan becomes the first Paladin golfer to qualify for the U.S. Open since Stefanie Kenoyer competed in the event in 2009.
