Mercer's Pyon named Women's Golfer of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Carol Pyon has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition Oct. 16-22. The selection is made by the league office.

Pyon led the Bears at the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, helping them finish eighth of 17 teams, which included two ranked nationally. The sophomore from Macon, Georgia, was the team’s top finisher, carding a 4-over 220 over three rounds to finish 15th. Pyon opened with a 2-over 74 on the first day and came back to shoot a 2-under 70 in the second round, making her even-par for the tournament heading into the final round. She fired a 4-over 76 on the last day to finish at 4-over for the tournament. 

The weekly award is Pyon’s second of her career.

Mercer will finish the fall by hosting the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship at the Idle Hour Golf Club in Macon, Georgia, on Nov. 4-5.
