SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer volleyball player Paige Alsten has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Sept. 6 to Sept. 12, the league office announced Wednesday.
Alsten, a junior from Lighthouse Point, Florida, registered a career-high 21 kills to go with six block assists in a win over Northwestern State. Alsten followed up that performance by combining for 29 kills, three digs, two solo blocks and 13 block assists in games against Austin Peay and Mississippi.
In the classroom, Alsten boasts a 3.79 cumulative grade point average. Alsten, whose major is mechanical engineering, is also pursuing a minor in business.
Also nominated for SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week: Allie Buchalski (Furman women's cross country), Ashley Muench (UNCG volleyball), Erin Bonner (Samford women’s soccer), Colin Brewer (Chattanooga football), Bethany King (VMI women’s cross country) and Sayres McKenna (Western Carolina women’s soccer).
