SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jaquelyn Langhaim and Western Carolina’s Abigail Veit have been named the Southern Conference offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for matches played Oct. 1-7, the conference office announced Monday.

Langhaim, a setter, averaged 9.33 assists per set as the Mocs split a pair of conference matches on the week, falling to The Citadel and sweeping Mercer. Despite the loss, the freshman dished out 31 assists, over two assists more than her season average, and added 10 digs to earn a double-double against the Bulldogs. She also had three kills, a service ace and a block assist. A day later, the Alpine, Utah, native paced the Mocs’ offensive attack with 25 assists in the 3-0 win over Mercer. She contributed a career-high four aces, three digs and three block assists in the home defeat of the Bears.

Veit, an outside hitter, averaged 3.38 kills and 4.62 digs per set as the Catamounts went 2-0 on the week with four-set wins over both Furman and Wofford. Against Furman, the junior tallied a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs and hit .229 in the win. The native of Cary, North Carolina, recorded a season-high 16 kills and a match-high and career-high 21 digs a day later to pace the Catamounts past the Terriers.

The nods are the first career honors for both Langhaim and Veit. Langhaim’s selection is Chattanooga’s second offensive honor this season, while Veit’s selection is the first for Western Carolina and first on the defensive end since libero Meagan Sanchez was recognized on Sept. 12, 2016.
