SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Maddie Nunley and Wofford’s Taylor Gill have been named the Southern Conference offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for matches played Oct. 15-21, the conference office announced Monday.

Nunley, a setter, recorded 126 assists, 12.6 per set, as the Bears picked up two, five-set conference road wins on the week. At UNCG, Nunley recorded a match-high and career-high 60 assists, helped three players record double-digit kills, and added 10 digs to earn a double-double in the win. At Western Carolina, the sophomore set a new career best with 66 assists, a match high, registered six digs and added a career-high five kills. The native of Murrieta, California, is fourth amongst conference players in overall assists (644) and assists per set (10.56), though her 11.25 assists per set in league play is a conference best.

Gill, a libero, averaged 7.0 digs per set and led all players in digs in both of Wofford’s conference wins on the week. In the Terriers’ 3-0 sweep of Chattanooga, the senior tallied 17 digs and added seven assists and two service aces. The next day, Gill recorded a season-high 32 digs in Wofford’s comeback win over Samford. She also had 10 digs, giving her a double-double. Gill’s ace in the third set gave Wofford a 29-27 win and put the Terriers up 2-1 en route to the four-set win.

The nod is the first of Nunley’s career and first of the season for the Bears. It is the second of the season for Gill and fourth of her career.

Also nominated for defensive player of the week: Alicia Roberts (The Citadel), Mariah McPartland (ETSU), Meg DeMaar (Furman), Roberta Todd (Mercer), Stephanie Mysemburg (UNCG), Grace Tiesman (Samford), Megan Sanchez (Western Carolina).
