LA MANGA, Spain – Former ETSU women’s soccer forward Eleonora Goldoni continues to represent the Bucs on the big stage, as she prepares to rejoin the Italian national team in April.
Goldoni and the Italian squad will take on Norway on April 5, Sweden on April 7 and the United States on April 9 in the La Manga Tournament — a round-robin style tournament in La Manga, Spain.
Goldoni, who led the Bucs with 20 points off eight goals and four assists last season, was selected several times for the Italy senior team during their successful qualifying campaign for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
“We’re very proud of Leo,” said ETSU head coach Adam Sayers. “She thoroughly deserves this call up. She is a fantastic player with a perfect attitude and is very committed to her national team as we are in supporting her. We know she will continue to represent both herself and ETSU in a exemplary way on the global stage.”
Goldoni finished her last season this past fall, helping ETSU make it to the Southern Conference semifinal as the No. 3 seed. She ranked fourth in the SoCon in points (20), points per game (1.33), goals (8) and was third in goals per game (0.53).
The Ferrara, Italy native has etched her name all over the ETSU record books. She is the all-time leader in career goals with 36 while ranking second in points (82) and shots attempted (197) and third in shots on goal (99).
In three of her four seasons at ETSU, Goldoni earned all-conference honors with two first team selections in 2016 and 2018 and a second team pick in 2017. She also had strong academics at ETSU with multiple academic all-conference selections and a SoCon Student Athlete of the Week accolade from 2017.
