SPARTANBURG, S.C. – VMI outfielder Matt Pita and Wofford right-hander Jake Hershman have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games April 9-15. The selections are made by the league office.

Against Longwood on Tuesday, Pita registered a pair of hits, a home run and three RBIs as VMI was edged out 11-9. In Wednesday’s contest against VCU, the Richmond, Virginia, native reached base five times, totaling three walks and one hit and was hit by a pitch in the 4-1 victory. After going 3-for-4 in Saturday’s game one win over Western Carolina, Pita was 2-for-2 with an inside-the-park home run to help VMI seal a series sweep with a 5-4 victory over the Catamounts.
