Greenville, S.C. - Junior Emery May broke a scoreless tie with a 57th minute goal to lead Furman to a 1-0 victory over North Greenville in the Paladins' non-conference men's soccer finale Thursday evening on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.

The win marked the third in the last four games for Furman and improved the Paladins, 6-4-1 on the season, to 5-1-1 in their last seven outings. North Greenville fell to 4-5-1.

With the game knotted at 0-0 and under 34 minutes left in regulation, Danny Kierath curled a corner kick into the box that was headed forward and into the path of May, who poked his shot past NGU goalkeeper Noah Kendrick at the 56:18 mark for the lone goal of the match. The tally marked the third of the year for May and his second match-winning score of the season.

Redshirt-sophomore Ben Hale recorded one save to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season and third in the last four matches. Kendrick turned away five shots for North Greenville, including a diving deflection on Dalton Souder's 36th minute penalty kick.

The Paladins, who saw their penalty kick saved and had two goals waved off by the offside flag, outshot the Crusaders 23-6 and compiled a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.

Furman begins Southern Conference play on Tuesday, October 9, with a 7:30 p.m. EDT contest versus new league member Belmont in Nashville, Tenn.
