SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG defender Casey Penland has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Oct. 16-22 after scoring two goals and registering one assist in a pair of victories over Wofford and Mercer.

Penland, a sophomore from High Point, North Carolina, scored a goal and dished out an assist in the 6-1 win against Wofford on Tuesday. Against Mercer, Penland scored the game-tying goal in the second half, sending the game to overtime where the Spartans would go on to defeat the Bears 2-1.

UNCG enters the last week of conference play sitting tied for first with upcoming matchups against VMI on Tuesday and Furman on Saturday.

Also nominated: Luke Parker (ETSU) and Danny Kiereth (Furman).
