SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its 2018-19 men’s basketball league schedule Wednesday. The SoCon’s 10 men’s basketball teams will all play double-round-robin, 18-game intraleague schedules, totaling 90 league contests. Conference play opens with three games on Saturday, Dec. 1, before ramping up for good in January.
The Citadel hosts Mercer at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1 to get the SoCon slate under way, with Wofford welcoming ETSU and Western Carolina coach Mark Prosser making his league debut at Furman later in the day. Six more SoCon games take place in December.
Beginning Jan. 3, the teams will play a Thursday-Saturday conference slate for the next nine weeks, with the regular season wrapping up on Saturday, March 2.
The Southern Conference Basketball Championship presented by General Shale will be held March 8-11 at U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina, with Monday’s championship game airing on ESPN at 7 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, Nov. 1.
UNCG is the SoCon’s defending regular-season and tournament champion.
Full broadcast schedules will be announced later, but all 10 schools’ home games will air on either ESPN3 or ESPN+ if not selected for national or regional broadcast.
The 98th season of Southern Conference basketball opens Nov. 6 with nine league teams in action, highlighted by Wofford hosting North Carolina in a contest that will air on ESPN2. The Terriers knocked off the then-fifth-ranked Tar Heels in Chapel Hill last season.
