SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference Sports Media Association selected its 2015 men’s basketball all-conference teams and postseason awards today (March 3). Wofford’s Karl Cochran was named the Malcolm U. Pitt Player of the Year, becoming the first Terrier to win the award.

Furman’s Devin Sibley was named the league’s Freshman of the Year, while Wofford head coach Mike Young was tabbed the Anton Foy Coach of the Year.

The Southern Conference Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player last season, Cochran was tabbed the preseason Player of the Year last fall and also garnered the Player of the Year award this season from the league’s coaches. The senior led the Terriers in scoring (15.0 ppg), assists (2.8 apg) and steals (1.8 apg). Cochran averaged 2.9 made 3-pointers per game, which was tied for the second-best mark in the league.

In addition to being named the Freshman of the Year by the media, Sibley garnered the same honor from the league’s coaches, as well. He was second on the team with 10.1 points per game and scored 12.0 per contest in league games. After starting four games during nonconference play, Sibley earned 13 starts in 18 league games for the Paladins. He scored in double figures in 11 games during his freshman campaign and knocked down 75 percent of his free-throw attempts.

Young was named the Anton Foy Coach of the Year for the second time in his career after earning the nod in 2010. Young guided the Terriers to an overall record of 25-6, including a 16-2 mark in SoCon games to give Wofford the league’s regular-season championship.

The league’s media association also selected three all-conference teams, consisting of five members each. Cochran garnered first-team honors for the second consecutive year and was joined by Ashton Moore (The Citadel), Jalen Riley (ETSU), Casey Jones (Chattanooga) and James Sinclair (Western Carolina).

Mercer placed a pair on the second team in Darious Moten and Ike Nwamu. Furman’s Stephen Croone earned second-team honors for the second straight season. Those three were joined by Chattanooga’s Justin Tuoyo and Wofford’s Lee Skinner.

Rashawn Rembert (ETSU), Tevon Saddler (UNCG), Darius Jones-Gibson (Samford), Greg Pryor (Chattanooga) and Spencer Collins (Wofford) made up the all-conference third team.

In addition to earning the Freshman of the Year award, Sibley was named to the all-freshman team, where he was joined by his teammate Daniel Fowler, Jake Wright (The Citadel), Christen Cunningham (Samford) and Evan Taylor (Samford).

The 2015 Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Championship presented by General Shale begins Friday, March 6, at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, N.C. The league’s championship game will tip off Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2.
