SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford junior forward Cameron Jackson was named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Dec. 19 to Jan. 1. The award is selected by the league office.
Jackson averaged 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game as the Terriers shocked No. 5 North Carolina before falling to UNCG to open SoCon play.
Against the Tar Heels on Dec. 20, Jackson scored 18 points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked a school-record six shots as Wofford pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, never trailing in the second half and downing North Carolina, 79-75. The Winchester, Virginia, native shot 53 percent from the floor (8-for-15) and had three assists and three steals. For his efforts, Jackson was named the Lute Olson Award National Player of the Week.
Jackson followed that up with another solid effort in the Terriers’ 71-67 loss at UNCG on Saturday, scoring 12 points and adding eight rebounds. He blocked three more shots, picked up two steals and shot 60 percent from the field (6-for-10).
Jackson leads the SoCon with 25 total steals and 2.1 per game.
The Terriers (8-5, 0-1 SoCon) return to action Thursday when they host VMI (5-7, 0-1) at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium at 7 p.m.
