GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Wednesday, UNCG women's basketball assistant coach Cait Wetmore received one of the highest honors bestowed to young coaches on the rise through the coaching ranks. Wetmore has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 list presented by Marriott Rewards.

The honor designates Wetmore as one of the top 30 up-and-coming women’s basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. The laurel recognizes coaches who excel in community service involvement, mentorship and impact on others, professional manner and attitude and professional association involvement.

"I am honored to be recognized by the WBCA and to be in the company of so many young, dedicated coaches,” said Wetmore. “It is a tremendous privilege to coach women's basketball and fulfill our obligation to positively impact and empower student-athletes. I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful coaches and players who continue to energize and inspire me."

Wetmore, a 2010 graduate of Adelphi University, recently completed her third season on the bench at UNCG, serving as the recruiting coordinator for the 2015-16 season. Working primarily with the UNCG guards, Wetmore has seen three players receive All-Southern Conference honors the past two seasons in Lucy Mason, Nadine Soliman and Bailey Williams. Additionally, Soliman was named the 2017 SoCon Freshman of the Year.

This season, Wetmore helped guide the Spartans to a 12-win improvement, one of the largest upticks in wins over the previous season in the nation. UNCG achieved a 20-15 record, the first 20-win season for the Blue and Gold since the 2006-07 campaign.

“Cait deserves to be recognized as one of the top 30 coaches in the country under the age of 30,” said head coach Trina Patterson. “I am fortunate to work with Cait and I am excited that she has received this accomplishment.  Cait strives for excellence in everything that she does. She is an outstanding teacher of the game, an industrious worker, and an outstanding recruiter. She is highly respected from our UNCG community and her peers because of her professionalism, knowledge of the game and high character.

“Cait has been instrumental in contributing to the success of our program this season. She contributes to every aspect of our program: guard development, scouting, recruiting and academics.”
