SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Keiana Gilbert has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for games played Jan. 31 through Feb 3, the conference announced Tuesday. The weekly award is the second of the season for Gilbert.
Gilbert finished the week averaging a team-best 18.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in two Chattanooga victories including head coach Jim Foster’s 900th career win.
The senior started the week with 16 points and four assists against Western Carolina. She finished 7-for-11 from the floor with two 3-pointers. Gilbert also pulled down three boards and recorded a steal.
On Feb. 3, Gilbert and the Mocs earned their second consecutive road win with a 73-57 victory at UNCG as the Pulaski, Tenn., native poured in 21 points and shot 57 percent from the field. Gilbert grabbed four rebounds, dished out five assists and tallied four steals in the contest.
With the 37 total points last week, the 5-11 guard moved in to 14th place on UTC’s career scoring list with 1,322 points. Gilbert ranks in the top 15 of seven SoCon statistical categories and leads the league in minutes played per game with 38.1 minutes.
