SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer guard KeKe Calloway has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for games played Nov. 27-Dec. 3 after averaging 23.0 points per game. The award is selected by the league office.
The senior led Mercer in scoring in both contests last week as the Bears went 1-1. Calloway netted 21 points in a 67-60 loss at SEC foe Georgia on Nov. 28, going 10-of-17 from the floor (58.8 percent) as the Bears’ comeback effort fell just short. In a 64-48 home win over Kennesaw State on Dec. 1, the Forsyth, Georgia, native scored a game-high 25 points. Calloway was 10-of-19 from the field (52.6 percent), including 4-of-12 from long range, and added four assists and five rebounds. The SoCon Preseason Player of the Year scored 21 of her 25 points in the second half and outscored the Owls 17-9 in the third quarter by herself.
Calloway, who also earned the player of the week nod in week two, has scored 20-plus points in five games this season. She is tied for the conference lead in scoring, averaging 20.1 points per game. Her 4.6 assists and 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio are both second amongst conference players, while her 2.5 3s per game is third. Calloway, who leads the conference with 36.1 minutes per game, is also top-10 in steals, rebounding, defensive rebounds and free-throw percentage.
