SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer women’s basketball player Amanda Thompson has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Nov. 29-Dec. 5, the league office announced Wednesday.
Thompson grabbed nine rebounds and scored six points as the Bears edged out Campbell 58-57 on Thursday. The junior from Hayesville, North Carolina, then registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as Mercer topped Davidson on Sunday. Thompson currently leads the Bears with 7.9 rebounds per game.
An engineering major, Thompson holds a 4.0 grade point average.
Mercer hosts George Washington on Wednesday before traveling to UNC Asheville on Sunday.
