GREENVILLE, S.C. The Furman women’s cross country team is ranked tenth in the Stride Report preseason national poll and seventh in the FloTrack preseason poll, marking the highest preseason ranking in the history of the Paladin program.

The Paladin women, six-time defending Southern Conference Champions who placed 23rd at the 2018 NCAA Championships, return all seven of their competitors from last year’s NCAA squad, including senior Savannah Carnahan. Carnahan earned an All-American citation after placing 20th at the national meet last season.

Along with Carnahan, seniors Emma Grace Hurley and Gabbi Jennings earned All-Southeast Region accolades last season after helping the Paladins to a second-place finish at the region meet.  Senior Riley Burr, junior Krissy Gear and sophomores Reilly Caldwell and Emma Kuntz round out the Furman returnees, while rookies Nicole Matysik, Quinn McConnell, Lauren Peterson and Abigail Robertson look to break into the starting lineup.

“As the program finishes up preseason camp in the mountains of Blowing Rock, N.C., we were excited to see our ranking,” said Furman head coach Robert Gary.  “Perhaps the most exciting part for our nucleus of seniors to our new freshmen, as well as the entirety of our staff, is that we have had a tremendous record of blowing through our pre-season ranking. This is going to be a very special year for the Girl Gang!”

The Paladins will open the season August 30 at the Charlotte Opener in Charlotte, N.C.
