SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The NCAA announced today (April 18) that the Southern Conference and Furman University will serve as co-hosts of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament first and second rounds at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C., in 2022.
Additionally, the SoCon and Furman were awarded a Division I women’s basketball regional in 2020.
Bon Secours Wellness Arena will host the women’s regional March 27-30 in 2020 and will play host to the NCAA men’s tournament March 18 & 20, 2022. The announcement came as part of over 600 NCAA bids that were announced for all sports across all divisions from 2018-2022.
Criteria for selecting the host sites included creating what will be an exceptional experience for the student-athletes, along with adherence to NCAA bid specifications. Specifications can include, but are not limited to, providing optimal facilities; ease of travel to the location and ample lodging; and adherence to NCAA principles, which include providing an atmosphere that is safe and respects the dignity of all attendees.
Furman and the Southern Conference served as co-hosts of the NCAA men’s tournament First/Second Round last month in front of capacity crowds at BSWA in downtown Greenville. The two also teamed up in 2002 to host the South Region first and second rounds.
