GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the third time in program history and the Spartans have earned their highest seed in program history as the 13th seed in the West Region. The Spartans open play in the first round Thursday, March 15, against fourth-seeded Gonzaga in Boise, Idaho. Game time will be 11:30 a.m. local time (1:30 p.m. Eastern).
The Spartans enter the NCAA tournament with a 27-7 overall record after winning both the Southern Conference regular season and SoCon tournament title. UNCG ranks 18th in the nation in wins with its program-record 27 wins while finishing 15-3 in league play. The Spartans advanced to the NCAA tournament with a dominant defensive effort in the SoCon title game, defeating ETSU 62-47.
Gonzaga finished the regular season ranked No. 6 in the country in the polls with a 30-4 overall record. The Zags won the West Coast Conference regular-season and tournament titles for the sixth straight time with a 74-54 victory over BYU. Gonzaga will be making its 20th straight NCAA tournament appearance.
