SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Quentin Perez has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Nov. 1-5. The selection is made by the league office.
Perez opened the season with a strong showing at the Southeast Open on Nov. 3, posting a 3-0 record to take the individual championship at 165 pounds. The Arlington, Texas, native won his first bout with a 22-5 tech fall over Dominic Jacocks of Notre Dame College and recorded his second tech fall of the day in a 16-0 victory over Luke Fortuna of Missouri. Perez secured the title by pinning No. 16 Kennedy Monday of North Carolina with just one second before the end of the third period, making it his third bout of the day to end before the final whistle.
The weekly award is the third of Perez’s career.
The Camels return to the mat with a pair of duals this weekend, at Pittsburgh on Saturday and at Ohio University on Sunday.
Also nominated: Kyle Gorant (Davidson), Samuel Mora (Gardner-Webb), Austin Stith (Presbyterian), Matthew Waddell (Chattanooga) and Neal Richards (VMI).
