SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer women’s lacrosse player Lindsey Zeltwanger has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held May 2-8, the league office announced Wednesday.

A midfielder, Zeltwanger totaled 13 points in the SoCon semifinals and finals to help lift the Bears to the inaugural women’s lacrosse championship. A member of the All-SoCon first team, Zeltwanger scored three goals and three assists in Thursday’s 18-17 upset win over No. 1 Detroit Mercy. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native would better her performance in the championship, scoring five goals and handing out two assists as Mercer downed No. 3 Furman 18-8 to claim the league’s first ever women’s lacrosse championship on Saturday. A senior captain, Zeltwanger was named to the all-tournament team for her performance, adding six ground balls and three draw controls in the pair of victories.

A business marketing major, Zeltwanger holds a 3.83 grade point average.

With the win, Mercer advanced to the 2018 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship, traveling to Wagner for the play-in game on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Also nominated for SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week: Chris Cook (ETSU baseball), Jordan Gontram (UNCG softball) and Spencer Holcomb (Western Carolina baseball).
