SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville midfielder Mclean Chicquen and faceoff specialist Hunter Forbes have been named the Southern Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for games played April 11-17, the league office announced Tuesday. Selections are made by the conference office.
Chicquen, a transfer from Stony Brook, led all SoCon players last week with six points on five goals and one assist in the Dolphins’ 13-7 win at Mercer on Saturday. Chicquen’s six points and five goals are the most by a Dolphin this season. His five goals also tied this season’s SoCon single game high and were one shy of tying the SoCon single game all-time record of six. The midfielder landed seven of his eight shots on-goal and added a caused turnover in leading the Dolphins to their second win of the season.
The Victoria, British Columbia, native currently ranks sixth in the SoCon in points per game (2.36) seventh in goals per game (1.64).
Forbes, a junior, led all SoCon players with 17 faceoff wins against one of the best faceoff teams in the country, Mercer. Forbes went 17-for-23 against the Bears, who ranked second in the SoCon and 14th in the nation in faceoff winning percentage entering Saturday’s contest. Forbes’ 17 faceoffs won ties his season high, which he set against Detroit Mercy on Feb. 23, but achieved his mark of 17 against Mercer in three less attempts than his 26 attempts against the Titans. The Woodstock, Georgia, native also added a game-high eight ground balls in addition to one assist on Saturday.
Forbes currently ranks fourth in the SoCon in faceoff winning percentage, gaining possession for the Dolphins on 54.5% of his attempts at the faceoff X.
Jacksonville (2-9, 2-3 SoCon) returns to action on Saturday, April 22, as the Dolphins host the High Point Panthers (3-9, 1-4 SoCon), who are on a four-game losing streak, at noon (ET). Saturday’s contest will broadcast on ESPN3.
