UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship selections announcement took place on Sunday night on ESPNU, during which the University of Richmond men's lacrosse team learned that it will be traveling to New York's capital city to take on overall No. 2 seed Albany.

The Southern Conference champions will match up with Albany for the first time in program history and will do so on Saturday, May 12, at 5 p.m. live on ESPNU. Albany is the 2018 America East Champion and spent several weeks this season ranked as the No. 1 team in the country.

Richmond is officially one 17 teams with the opportunity to compete for a national championship when the tournament gets underway on Wednesday, May 9, with the play-in game. The first round is set to take place May 12-13, the quarterfinals May 19-20, the semifinals May 26 and the national championship on May 28 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

The Spiders came back from a three-goal deficit after the first period on Saturday opposite Jacksonville to send the game to overtime, and junior Teddy Hatfield scored the game-winner with 1:32 remaining in the first sudden-victory period to clinch the program's second NCAA berth in the program's five-year history and first since 2014.

The last time the Spiders competed in the NCAA tournament was in their first year of eligibility after winning the Atlantic Sun Championship in 2014. Richmond was part of the play-in game and lost to Air Force on the road.
