Northern Iowa Takes Over at No.1

 

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ---Northern Iowa claims the top spot in the FCS Coaches Poll with a 48-10 win over Southern Utah coupled with North Dakota State loss to rival South Dakota State, 29-24.  Northern Iowa received 17 first place votes and 689 points.

 

Also receiving first place votes were Montana, with seven first place votes and 659 points in second, McNeese State in third with one first place votes and 639 points and North Dakota State receiving three first place votes and 556 points.   Southern Illinois, Appalachian State, Massachusetts, Richmond, James Madison and Delaware State round out the top 10.

 

James Madison and Delaware switched places with James Madison moving to No.9 with a win over Towson, 23-13 and Delaware dropping to No.13 with a lost to Villanova, 16-10.  Yale fell to No. 20 after they fell to Ivy League rival Harvard, 37-6. 

 

FCS Coaches Poll is based exclusively on a voting panel of head coaches in the FCS under the cooperation of the Collegiate Commissioners Association (CCA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).

 

The poll is available on the newly-created FCS web page that features the poll, conference scores and standings, and features on FCS programs and players. The Southern Conference oversees the poll and maintains the web site.
